Lateral Police Officer/Post Academy Graduate

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol the city's commercial, industrial and residential districts, working closely with the community and other public safety agencies to proactively preserve the peace and promote public safety.
  • Respond to calls for service within the Oakland city limits.
  • First responder to most emergency situations
  • Accurately document activities in written reports and statements, and provide court testimony.
  • Investigate crimes such as burglary, robbery, assault, vandalism, domestic disputes, and disturbing the peace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have been employed by a law enforcement agency as a police officer/deputy within the last 36 months.
  • Possess a valid Basic California P.O.S.T. Professional Certificate or for out-of-state applicants a copy of their California P.O.S.T. waiver document.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Have a valid California Driver’s License by date of hire.
  • Have no felony convictions or other convictions which would prevent carrying a gun.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or in the citizenship application process
    OR
  • Graduate of a certified P.O.S.T. Academy within the last 24 months of application
  • Possession of a Basic California P.O.S.T. Academy certificate.
